Introducing Gerard Hartmann

Gerard Hartmann

Gerard Hartmann is a native of Limerick City, Ireland who, over the past twenty two years, has developed a reputation for treating many of the the world's elite sport stars.

He is the founder and director of Hartmann International Sports Injury Clinic at the University Arena, University of Limerick, Ireland and its satellite clinic at the High Altitude Training Centre, Iten, Kenya.

Gerard has treated 61 Olympic medal winners, 47 World Champions including World Record holders in 100m, 110m hurdles, 1,500m, 1 mile, 3,000m, 3,000m steeplechase, 5,000m, 10,000m, 10 mile road, half marathon, marathon.

 

He has treated international athletes from USA, Great Britain, Ireland, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, South Africa, Tanzania, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Ukraine, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Portugal, Spain.

At 18 years of age Gerard went to the USA in 1979 on an athletic scholarship to McNeese State University and then to the University of Arkansas to compete in middle distance track events (1,500m 3:45, 5,000m 14:14, 3,000m SC 8:48).

In 1984 he won the first of seven national Irish triathlon titles and between 1984 and 1991 represented Ireland in European Championships, World Triathlon Championships and Hawaii Ironman World Championships events. His best achievements internationally was:

3rd Place Japan International Triathlon
6th Place European Triathlon Championships
14th Place World Triathlon Championships
24th Place Hawaii Ironman.

In 1991, at 31 years of age Gerard’s career was abruptly ended when he fractured his hip in a freak cycling accident. He first developed his Physical Therapy practice in Gainesville, Florida, where he operated his clinic, Gerard Hartmann Physical Therapy and Advanced Performance Systems.

He returned to his native Limerick City in 1996 and opened Hartmann International Sports Injury Clinic at 2 Patrick Street in the main city centre.

In 2007 he re-located the clinic to the University Arena Sports Centre at the University of Limerick.


Gerard Hartmann served as Physical Therapist at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games to a dozen medal winners.

He was Physical Therapist to the Irish Olympic team in Atlanta USA in 1996.

He served on the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic team at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, 2004 Athens Olympic Games, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

He has treated and prepared athletes who have won the following marathons:

He has worked with a record seven winners of the London Marathon including world record holders Paula Radcliffe and Khalid Khannouchi.

Introducing David Campbell

David Campbell

David Campbell from Kildare, Ireland who, over the past 13 years has grown a reputation for treating some of the world’s best athletes.

David first studied physical therapy in 2000 and has since become a chartered physiotherapist after studying physiotherapy at University College Dublin, Ireland. He is now working alongside Gerard Hartmann at the Hartmann International Sports Injury Clinic, University Arena, University of Limerick, Ireland.

David has treated 22 Olympic medalists, and Olympians from 25 nationalities including USA, GB, Australia, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, New Zealand, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Switzerland, France, Spain, Germany.

At the age of 16 David suffered a career threatening injury and subsequently was treated by Gerard Hartmann; this treatment inspired David’s interest in holistic therapy and his passion for achieving optimal performance levels, he consequently studied physical therapy in 2000.

After a number of years studying and working David found that he himself had the ability to compete as an international athlete. In 2006, David qualified for the European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg. David went on to represent Ireland at the World Championships 2007 in Osaka, and competed on the international circuit until 2010. He ran 1.45:59 for 800 meters and is a member of the elite sub four-minute mile club. David won multiple national titles including the 800m/1500m double in 2007, a feat that had not been replicated since the ‘Chairman of the Boards’, Eamonn Coghlan in 1981.

David was all out in his pursuit to be a top class athlete and believed he was going to have a major impact at the 2010 European Championships but never got to reach the starting line after picking up a significant injury to his hip and back which required multiple surgeries.

David Campbell

Having been a successful athlete, and no longer able to compete at the highest level, David chose to refocus his attentions back to his initial passion of treating and facilitating athletes striving to reach their full potential.

David was physiotherapist to Melbourne Track Club between 2011 and 2014, and in 2013 became lead physiotherapist to the Great Run series in UK and Ireland.

David has treated and prepared athletes who have competed in:
